Living With Epididymitis

I had a question the other day about epididymitis.

The epididymis is a long, tightly coiled tube lying above and behind each testicle.

It collects and stores maturing sperm made by your testicles before ejaculation.

Inflammation and infection of the epididymis is called epididymitis.

The causes of epididymitis vary depending on your age and behavior.

In children it’s usually associated with urinary tract infections.

In young, sexually active men, it’s often linked to sexually transmitted infection.

And in older men it’s often caused by enlargement of the prostate gland.

Bacterial infections, possibly spread from your rectal area or following a urological procedure, also may cause epididymitis.

And an injury to your groin may cause epididymitis.

Pain, tenderness, and swelling in the scrotum are the most common symptoms.

Other symptoms may include fever and chills, frequent or painful urination, or a discharge from your penis.

Supportive measures, like bed rest with elevation of the hips may help relieve discomfort caused by epididymitis.

If you have symptoms of epididymitis, reduce the risk of spreading a possible infection to your partner by avoiding sexual intercourse until you can be examined by your doctor.

To deal with epididymitis it’s beneficial to:

*Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily hydrates body and brain cells and flushes toxins (whether thirsty or not!).

*Review my post on candida.

*Increase exercise, relaxation techniques.

*Increase fresh, raw fruits and veggies (organic when possible).

*Consider fresh juicing.

*Consume plenty of fresh, raw, unroasted pumpkin seeds.

*Increase fiber intake.

*Consider taking L-alanine, L-glutamic acid and L-glycine.  Take as directed on label; take with water or juice; don’t take with milk; take with 50 mg vitamin B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption.

*Consider taking berry seeds complex, 1-2 tablets after each meal.

*Consider taking kelp, 1,000-1,5000 mg daily.

*Teas made from the diuretic herbs buchu and corn silk are helpful.  Juniper berries, parsley, slippery elm bark, and uva ursi are also natural diuretics and urinary tract tonics.

*Drink organic cranberry juice.

*Eat 1-4 ounces of raw pumpkin seeds every day; as an alternative, pumpkin seed oil can be taken in capsule form.

*Ensure good bowel function; avoid constipation.

*Consider a liver and/or colon cleanse.

*Decrease toxic exposures (food and environmental).

*Decrease any and all hydrogenated, trans fats, deep-fried foods, margarine, fast foods, artificial sweeteners.

*Decrease sugar, sweets, white flour products, processed foods.

*Avoid tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, soda pop.

*Understand your medications and possible side effects.

*Maintain a healthy weight.
