Personal Care

Have you ever thought about what’s in the products you use to clean your body?  We assume they’re safe if they’re allowed to be sold.  Unfortunately, that isn’t true.

When you start your day, you go in the bathroom.  You brush your teeth, soap your body, shampoo your hair, use deodorant, lotions, moisturizers, shaving cream, cosmetics, hair spray, nail polish, perfume or cologne.  You’re now clean and presentable to the world, ready to face the day.

Now let’s think about what you’ve just done.  Your day has begun with a large dose of toxic chemicals.  They’ve entered your bloodstream through your mouth, your skin and your respiratory tract.  And you haven’t even left your bathroom yet!  We’re going to learn about the chemicals in the products you put on your body.  You’ll likely be both amazed and outraged.  What have you just asked your filtration and elimination organs, immune system and all your cells to deal with?  Body pollution.  And, you’re preparing for disease.

Does it make sense to you to pollute your body with toxins as you clean your body?

Should you care about what’s in the products you put ON your body?

Absolutely, if you care about your health.  Yes, it’s extremely unlikely you’ll use a product and have an instant life-threatening reaction from it.  You may react with a rash, eye irritation or respiratory reaction.  And, hopefully, if you react this way you’ll stay away from that product.  But don’t think that just because you don’t react immediately it means the product isn’t challenging your cells.  Many toxic substances in personal care products slowly, subtly, insidiously seep into your cells, accumulating over time, resulting in endless challenges to your immune , nervous and endocrine systems and every cell in your body.  It’s now known that frequent exposures to small amounts of toxins have more serious and deadly effects than a one-time large exposure.  Damage is cumulative and the end result could be any symptom or health challenge.

Let’s Think About Your Skin

Skin is your body’s largest and most vulnerable organ.  What do you do to support or protect it?  Our miraculous skin:

*Is waterproof, stretchable, washable, quick drying, pliable yet tough, exquisitely sensitive yet tough

*Is self-repairing, invisibly repairs small cuts, rips, burns and heals larger injuries too

*Keeps essential stuff in, other stuff out.  You can swim and not lose water or get waterlogged.

*Is your protection from the outside world providing a main line of defense against bumps, injury, ultraviolet light, microorganisms, and pollutants

*Helps regulate body temperature, keeping you warm or cooling you off

*Cushions and insulates your deeper organs

*Makes crucial vitamin D and some immune proteins

*Contains natural oils, which creates a barrier against unfriendly bacteria and seals in moisture.  Soaps, detergents and other ingredients in personal care products can damage this barrier and leave your skin vulnerable.

*Is a mini-excretory system releasing urea, salts, and water through sweat.  It releases toxins (rashes, acne) if your main filtration/excretion system is overloaded.

*Provides information about your external environment with sensors alerting you to touch, pressure, temperature and pain

*Transports substances into the bloodstream (some good and many not so good)

*Lasts a lifetime, comes in various colors, is even used as a “place of art” (tattoos).

Try this experiment:  Don’t believe your system absorbs products applied to the skin?  Rub some fresh garlic on the bottom of your foot and see how long it takes to taste the garlic in your mouth?
