Living With Morgellons Disease

I had a question the other day about Morgellons disease.

According to the Morgellons Research Foundation, this is a poorly understood condition, but a growing number of physicians believe it to be a chronic infectious disease.

It can be disabling and disfiguring.

The symptoms include itching, biting and crawling sensations, fibers emerging from the skin, skin lesions ranging from minor to disfiguring, joint pain, debilitating fatigue, changes in cognition, memory loss, mood disturbance and serious neurological manifestations.

Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating the disease, it’s not yet fully recognized by the medical community.

At this time, the cause of Morgellons disease is unknown and there’s no known cure, however success is being obtained through prolonged courses of appropriate antibiotics.

To deal with Morgellons disease it’s beneficial to:

*Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily.

*A body under stress is more vulnerable to free radical damage.  Bilberry, ginkgo biloba, and milk thistle are rich in flavonoids that neutralize free radicals.  Milk thistle also protects your liver.  (Don’t use ginkgo biloba if you have a bleeding disorder or are scheduled for surgery or a dental procedure.)

*Catnip, cramp bark, hops, linden flower, motherwort, passionflower, and skullcap promote relaxation.

*Mandarin oil can help alleviate anxiety and depression.  It can rubbed on your skin, added to bathwater, or used in massage or aromatherapy.  Try diffusing 5 drops of mandarin oil along with 3 drops of bergamot oil in an aroma lamp.  If you rub mandarin oil on your skin, avoid direct sun exposure for 6 hours after applying.

*Aloe vera juice, taken twice daily as directed on the product label, has an alkalinizing and anti-inflammatory effect.

*Try black walnut extract on an empty stomach 3 times daily.

*Calendula ointment or witch hazel can be used to help itching and irritation.

*Cayenne, garlic, and turmeric help to strengthen your immune system.

*Include in your diet apricots, asparagus, avocados, bananas, blackstrap molasses, broccoli, brown rice, dried fruits, dulse, figs, fish (especially salmon), garlic, green leafy vegetables, legumes, raw nuts and seeds, soy products, whole grains, and yogurt.  These foods supply valuable minerals that are depleted by stress.

*Try eating small, frequent meals rather than the traditional 3 meals a day.

*Limit your intake of animal protein.  Concentrate on meals high in complex carbohydrates and vegetable protein.

*Avoid foods containing refined sugar or other simple carbohydrates.  For a nutritional treatment plan to have maximum benefits, your diet should contain no simple sugars, carbonated soft drinks, tobacco, or alcohol.

*Don’t consume coffee, black tea, cola, chocolate, or anything else that contains caffeine.

*Learn relaxation techniques.

*Get regular exercise.

*Be sure to get adequate rest.

*Explore energy medicine techniques.

*Try to eliminate body pollution.

*Try to identify triggers (for example, toxic products, foods, fragrances).
