Living With Constipation
I had a question the other day about constipation.
Nobody really likes to talk about constipation, but if you’ve ever suffered from it you know it’s painful and frustrating.
Almost everyone gets constipated at some time during their life.
It’s not usually serious, but it can be a concern.
Constipation happens when bowel movements are difficult or less frequent.
The normal length of time between bowel movements ranges widely from person to person.
But, going more than 3 days without a bowel movement is too long.
After 3 days, your stool gets hard and more difficult to pass.
You’re considered constipated if you have 2 or more of the following for at least 3 months:
>Straining during a bowel movement more than 25% of the time.
>Hard stools more than 25% of the time.
>Incomplete evacuation more than 25% of the time.
>2 or fewer bowel movements in a week.
Constipation is usually caused by a disorder of bowel function and not a structural problem.
Common causes of constipation include not drinking enough water, not enough fiber in your diet, a disruption in your regular diet or routine (like when traveling), not enough activity or exercise, eating large amounts of dairy products, stress, overuse of laxatives, colon cancer, and depression.
Symptoms of constipation can include infrequent bowel movements and/or difficulty having bowel movements, a swollen abdomen, pain, and vomiting.
To deal with and prevent constipation it’s important to:
*Review my blog post on poop.
*Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily to hydrate and flush.
*Increase your essential fats (flax oil, olive oil, Omega-3 oils).
*Eat lots of fresh, raw fruits and veggies.
*Consider fresh juicing.
*Eat a fiber-rich diet.
*Consider a liver, gallbladder and/or colon cleanse.
*Consider enemas.
*Get regular exercise.
*Practice good stress and relaxation techniques.
*Take a natural calcium/magnesium supplement because this supports bowel function.
*Discover “hidden” allergies and sensitivities as these often trigger and/or aggravate symptoms (commonly wheat, dairy, sugar, gluten).
*Eliminate toxic exposures of all kinds.
*Eliminate caffeine or other stimulants.
Recommendations:
