A Natural Approach To Health
Living With Reflex Anoxic Seizures
I had a question the other day about reflex anoxic seizures.
Reflex Anoxic Seizure (RAS) is the term used for a seizure which is neither epileptic nor due to cyanotic breath-holding, but results from a brief stoppage of the heart through excessive activity of the vagus nerve.
The term reflex anoxic seizure is used to describe the convulsions accompanying this type of syncope.
Syncope is the result of the temporary cutting off of the supply of oxygenated blood to the brain.
Symptoms include reflex cardiac standstill (always reversible) usually following a surprising bump to the head or elsewhere.
These occur mainly in young children but can occur at any age.
Any unexpected stimulus, like pain, shock, or fright, causes the heart and breathing to stop, the eyes to roll up into the head, the complexion to become deathly white, often blue around the mouth and under the eyes, the jaw to clench and the body to stiffen; sometimes the arms and legs jerk.
After what seems like hours, but is probably less than 30 seconds, the body relaxes, the heart starts beating (sometimes very slowly initially) and the person is unconscious.
One or two minutes later the person may regain consciousness but can sometimes be unconscious for over an hour.
Upon recovery the person may be very emotional and then fall into a deep sleep for 2-3 hours and look extremely pale with dark circles under the eyes.
RAS attacks may occur several times per day/week /month.
The attacks appear to come in batches.
To deal with reflex anoxic seizures it’s beneficial to:
*Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily to hydrate and flush toxins.
*Alfalfa is a good source of needed minerals.
*Black cohosh, hyssop, and lobelia are beneficial for people with seizures because they help control the central nervous system and have a calming effect. For best results, they should be used on an alternating basis. (Don’t use black cohosh if you’re pregnant or have a chronic disease. Black cohosh shouldn’t be used by people with liver problems.)
*Avoid the herb sage.
*Eat cultured milk products like yogurt and kefir.
*Include beet greens, chard, eggs, green leafy vegetables, raw cheese, raw milk, raw nuts, seeds, and soybeans in the diet.
*Eat fish regularly (at least twice a week) and take a fish oil supplement.
*Drink fresh “live” juices made from beets, carrots, green beans, green leafy vegetables, peas, red grapes, and seaweed for concentrated nutrients.
*Eat small meals, don’t drink large quantities of liquids at once, and take 2 tablespoons of olive oil daily.
*Avoid alcoholic beverages, animal protein, fried foods, artificial sweeteners (aspartame), caffeine, and nicotine. Avoid refined foods and sugar.
*Ensure regular (2 per day) bowel movements.
*Take an Epsom salts bath twice a week.
*Decrease toxic exposures of all kinds.
*Investigate and eliminate “hidden” allergies/sensitivities.
*Become educated about all possible side effects and detrimental influences of any medications or treatment procedures you’re taking or considering.
*Research and address underlying Candida issues.
*Avoid MSG and artificial sweeteners as they are neurotoxins.
*Explore dental amalgam toxicity.
*May require extra magnesium (to bowel tolerance).
*Avoid aluminum (pans, foil, deodorant, etc.)
*Consider hair analysis for heavy metals toxicity.
