Living With Diaper Rash

I had a question the other day about diaper rash.

Almost all babies develop a diaper rash (an inflammation of the skin on the buttocks, genitals, and thighs) at some time in their young lives.

Although a diaper rash may cause a baby discomfort and even some pain, it’s rarely serious.

Most cases are of short duration, lasting only 3-4 days.

If the rash lasts longer, a secondary skin condition or infection may have developed.

Diaper rash can be caused by anything irritating to your baby’s sensitive skin.

The most common source of the problem is urine and stool left in contact with the skin for too long.

However, a rash can also be caused by inadequate drying of your baby’s skin after a bath.

Seborrheic dermatitis, an inflammatory skin condition, can trigger a diaper rash, as can thrush, or candidiasis, a type of yeast infection.

Babies receiving antibiotics for other illnesses are particularly susceptible to candida-related diaper rash, because the drugs allow fungal growth.

Most diaper rashes respond well to home treatments and require no medical care.

To deal with diaper rash it’s beneficial to:

*Drink plenty of purified water, broths, and juices daily to hydrate and flush toxins.

*Aloe vera gel has antioxidant properties that can aid in healing.

*Calendula, chamomile, elderflower, and tea tree oil can be used externally as a soothing wash on the rash.

*A poultice made with dandelion and yellow dock root can benefit the rash.

*Get plenty of rest.

*Avoid radical changes in atmospheric temperature.

*Take cool sponge baths.

*Increase Omega3 essential fats.

*Use ShakleeBaby skin care products.

*Consider liver and/or colon cleanses, fasting, and/or juicing.

*Review my post on candida.

*Eliminate toxic personal care, laundry and cleaning products.

*Eliminate personal care products that upset skin’s natural pH.

*Decrease exposure to chlorinated shower/bath water, pools and hot tubs.

*Eliminate free radical damage.
