Confused About Supplements?

A vitamin is a vitamin.  Isn’t it?

A lot of people believe all vitamin and/or dietary supplements are about the same.  So why not just buy the cheapest ones?  Let’s take vitamin C for example.  You would think that vitamin C is vitamin C, so how can the different brands be so different from each other?  The difference is pretty scientific and you’d have to be a chemist to understand all of it.  Let’s just say that only Mother Nature knows the exact formula and the best way to provide vitamin C.  Products that don’t use Mother Nature as their source can only make vitamin C lookalikes.  Molecularly they are similar, but not exactly the same.  Another important thing is when vitamin C is isolated from all the other nutrients found in an orange the bond is broken, creating imbalance.  Your body needs the laws of nature to be followed because these laws are all it understands, needs and can use to build healthy cells.

Let’s compare two works of art:

mona lisa     Mona Lisa – by Leonardo da Vinci

Everyone recognizes the famous Mona Lisa.  The original work of art is flawless and beautiful.  Many reproductions have been made.  The average person wouldn’t know the difference between a good reproduction and the original piece of work, but art specialists know what sets apart the real thing from a reproduction.  The underlying quality tells the truth.  The specialist can’t be fooled.  Your cells are specialists.  They know a fake when they see it.

An orange – by Mother Nature

A pure, organic orange with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, naturally ripened on the tree, picked and eaten fresh and juicy.  This is Mother Nature’s original work of art.  We know it as a rich, pure, natural source of vitamin C and your body’s cells recognize and accept it as the real thing because it comes from nature.  But that’s not all.  In nature, vitamin C never appears by itself.  It always appears in a balanced formula with other nutrients.  This whole food, natural, authentic form of vitamin C is the real thing and is eagerly used by your cells.  As with art, attempts have been made to reproduce Mother Nature’s vitamin C.  Reproductions in the form of synthetically produced tablets or natural isolates (in part naturally sourced) both provide only the vitamin C itself without any of the other nutrients in the formula.  These are known as isolates (isolated ascorbic acid only).  These reproductions try to reproduce Mother Nature’s formula, but they can’t.  The synthetic reproductions and the isolates can actually be detrimental to your health because of their imbalanced formulation.  In fact, the absence of nature’s formula makes your body steal the other needed nutrients from storage areas in your body in order to metabolize the isolated nutrient.  Your body’s cells can always tell the difference between the real thing and the lookalikes.  Only nature’s real thing builds true health.  When we don’t stick to the laws of nature, the result is dysfunction.

Tomorrow we will talk about whether it’s possible to get Mother Nature’s best in a supplement.
