Living With Meningitis

A Natural Approach To Health

Living With Meningitis

I had a question the other day about meningitis.

Meningitis is inflammation of the coverings around your brain and spinal cord.

It’s usually caused by an infection.

The infection occurs usually in children, teens, and young adults.

Older adults and people with long-term health problems are also at risk.

There are two main kinds of meningitis:

1.  Viral meningitis is fairly common.

It’s caused by a virus.

It usually doesn’t cause serious illness.

In severe cases, it can cause prolonged fever and seizures.

2.  Bacterial meningitis isn’t as common, but it’s very serious.

It’s caused by bacteria.

It needs to be treated right away to prevent brain damage and death.

Both kinds of meningitis have the same symptoms.

Meningitis is contagious.

The germs that cause it can be passed from one person to another through coughing and sneezing and through close contact.

The most common symptoms among teens and young adults are:

>A stiff and painful neck, especially when you try to touch your chin to your chest.

>Trouble staying awake.

Children, older adults, and people with other medical problems may have different symptoms:

>Babies may be cranky and refuse to eat.

They may have a rash.

They may cry when held.

>Young children may act like they have the flu.

They may cough or have trouble breathing.

>Older adults and people with other medical problems may have only a slight headache and fever.

It’s very important to see a doctor right away if you or your child has these symptoms.

Only a doctor can tell whether they are caused by viral or bacterial meningitis.

And bacterial meningitis can be deadly if not treated right away.

To deal with meningitis it’s beneficial to:

*Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily to hydrate and flush toxins.

*Review my post on keeping clean on the inside.

*Breathe easier; purify indoor air.

*Increase essential fats (flax oil, olive oil, Omega-3 oils).

*Consume a 50% raw food diet:  lots of fresh, raw fruits and veggies (organic when possible).  Include fresh juicing.

*Consider liver and colon cleanses.

*Increase exercise, deep breathing, relaxation, stress management and energy techniques.

*Increase fresh air, sunshine, connect to nature, adequate rest.

*Deal with any underlying emotional issues.

*Consider skin brushing, Epsom salt baths, hydrotherapy or add baking soda to bath water.

*Ensure regular (2 per day) bowel movements.

*Decrease toxic exposures of all kinds.

*Investigate and eliminate “hidden” allergies/sensitivities.

*Decrease or eliminate any and all hydrogenated, trans fats, and deep-fried foods.

*Decrease or eliminate sugar-laden foods, white flour products, simple carbs.

*Decrease or eliminate processed, instant, chemical-laden, “lifeless” foods.

*Decrease or eliminate smoking, alcohol, coffee, soda pop, processed juices.

*Become educated about all possible side effects and detrimental influences of any medications or treatment procedures you are taking or considering.
