Living With Pineal Cysts

I had a question the other day about pineal cysts.

Pineal cysts are benign (non-cancerous) fluid-filled sacs located in the region of your brain containing the pineal gland.

Although most pineal cysts are small, large pineal cysts can cause a variety of symptoms like headaches, normal pressure hydrocephalus, and even seizures and loss of consciousness in extreme cases.

Pineal cysts are typically found in young adults, 20-30 years of age, and are 3 times more likely to occur in women than in men.

The exact cause of pineal cysts is unknown.

However, since they are seen most frequently in young women, a common hypothesis is hormonal changes play a role in their formation.

As women age, the cyst initially increases and then eventually decreases in size, following a similar pattern to hormonal stages.

With men, they tend to remain stable over time.

Treatment generally focuses on managing symptoms, the most common of which is headaches.

To deal with pineal cysts it’s beneficial to:

*Drink 6-8 cups of purified (chlorine-free) water.

*Cayenne thins your blood, which reduces pain and allows beneficial blood flow.

*A salve made from ginger, peppermint oil, and wintergreen oil rubbed on the nape of your neck and/or temples can help to relieve headaches.

*Ginkgo biloba extract improves circulation to your brain, and may be helpful for headaches (don’t take if you have a bleeding disorder, or are scheduled for surgery or a dental procedure).

*Several clinical studies have shown ginger to be helpful for pain relief.

*Meadowsweet is an anti-inflammatory agent.

*Periwinkle flower has been found to increase the cerebral flow of oxygen, which helps to alleviate headache pain.

*Eat a well-balanced diet, including protein with every meal.  Consume organic foods as much as possible.

*Avoid chewing gum; don’t eat ice cream, iced beverages, or salt; and guard against excessive sun exposure.

*Eliminate foods containing tyramine (alcoholic beverages, bananas, cheese, chicken, chocolate, citrus fruits, cold cuts, herring, onions, peanut butter, pork, smoked fish, sour cream, vinegar, wine, and fresh-baked yeast products), phenylalanine (aspartame, Equal, NutraSweet), MSG, and nitrites (preservatives found in hot dogs and luncheon meats).

*To help prevent headaches, eat small meals and eat between meals to help stabilize wide swings in blood sugar.  Include almonds, almond milk, watercress, parsley, fennel, garlic, cherries, and pineapple in your diet.

*Practice deep-breathing exercises to promote oxygen flow to your brain.

*Maintain good posture habits.

*Use fiber daily (it binds toxins and carries them out of your body) and consider regular liver and/or colon cleanses.

*Review my candida post.

*Maintain optimal weight.

*Ensure regular (minimum 2/day) bowel movements.

*Eliminate toxic/chemical/environmental exposures as much as possible.

*Eliminate synthetic hormone use.

*Eliminate food/drinks stored in plastic, aluminum, Styrofoam, etc.

*Eliminate microwaved foods, especially in the above containers.
